PHILADELPHIA EAGLES

OFF SEASON CHANGES

The off-season's biggest storyline was A.J. Brown's blockbuster trade to New England, netting Philadelphia a future 2028 first-round pick in the deal. He’s irreplaceable in the offense but it was a move that just needed to happen with the rumors that were coming out of Philly. Their receiver room looks a bit thin but they did bring in Hollywood Brown and Dontayvion Wicks, plus first-round pick Makai Lemon. The Eagles also hired a new offensive coordinator in Sean Mannion who was previously the quarterbacks coach at the Packers.

QUATERBACKS

Jalen Hurts threw 25 touchdown passes in 2025 but posted his least productive rushing season since becoming a full-time starter, and now must learn his fifth offensive coordinator in five seasons in Sean Mannion, who is installing a real different look from what Philadelphia ran under Nick Sirianni. The Eagles have heavily run the ball in the last few seasons which means they haven’t asked too much of Jalen Hurts’ passing. That could change this year though especially with Saquon Barkley getting older. Hurts has led the Eagles to the playoffs in five consecutive seasons and I expect him to do so again this year.

RUNNING BACKS

Saquon Barkley took a significant step back statistically after his 2,000-yard 2024 season but he still remains a foundational piece. He missed zero games due to injury last season and he’s now had two consecutive injury free seasons (relatively). Saquon is still only 29 years old but has had 280 and 345 carries in the past two seasons, which history tells us will likely catch up to him eventually. Saquon recorded 1140 rushing yards and 7 touchdowns last year, and while he didn’t miss any games he definitely looked banged up in quite a few games. Other teams were also on to the Eagles simply wanting to run the ball and closed down the lanes for him more effectively. Saquon’s rushing line for the season is surprisingly low at 1050.5 which means the books are probably expecting more regression or injuries. There are also rumors that Tank Bigsby will get a lot more touches this season which limits Saquon’s upside as well.

RECEIVERS

DeVonta Smith and first-round rookie Makai Lemon lead a receiver room now without A.J. Brown, alongside veteran additions Dontayvion Wicks and Hollywood Brown. Philadelphia's league-leading 70.5% red-zone touchdown rate last season, nearly 13 points above the league average, is unlikely to repeat at that same historic clip even with the Brotherly Shove still in the playbook and Hurts still a dominant short-yardage weapon. The passing game's ceiling is a genuine open question with a first-time play-caller installing a new scheme and a receiver corps that lost its most dynamic weapon, even with Smith remaining a steady 1,000-yard threat. This offense's real floor depends heavily on how quickly Mannion's system translates from a coordinator role to full play-calling command this season. I am definitely bullish on Smith’s output this season, he now steps into the unquestioned WR1 and should get plenty of volume, although their passing game upside is somewhat limited.

DEFENCE

Philadelphia finished 13th in total defense, eighth against the pass, and fifth in points allowed under coordinator Vic Fangio. They were top-10 in several major efficiency metrics again in 2025, and the additions of Jonathan Greenard and cornerback Riq Woolen should offset the losses of Nakobe Dean and Reed Blankenship in free agency. Philadelphia was 32nd in penalty margin and 31st in net penalty EPA last season, a real, fixable discipline problem for an otherwise talented, veteran unit under a proven coordinator.
